Ashley Huderson Ph. D.


Director of Engineering Education and Outreach at the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) ,adjunct professor of Biology at the University of the District of Columbia, and the founder and president of Milton Strategies.

A culmination of personal and academic interest prompted her to turn her sights completely to diversity and inclusion issues within STEM education and embark on a career that would allow her to make a meaningful contributionto diversifying the scientific workforce and empowering those interested in STEM, regardless of their background.

Dr. Huderson has extensive experience as a skilled facilitator, leader, academic trainer, and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) curriculum designer and advocate. Dr. Huderson has over 14 years of STEM outreach and advocacy in the community developing informal science programs, mentoring STEM majors, equipping parents with tools and resources to encourage their children in STEM, and providing culturally relevant science education pedagogy to teachers. Dr. Huderson also works with local and Federal government agencies, non-profits, and academic institutions to providedleadership support for programs that foster an inclusive climate for pre-collegiate and collegiate STEM students.

In addition to Dr. Huderson's academic training and professional experiences, her enthusiastic and outgoing nature have been immensely beneficial in helping her forge and maintain authentic connections with stakeholders on several professional, community-based, and volunteer teams.  She has planned over 25 local and national engineering and STEM education focused conferences and convening's for undergraduate and graduate students, evaluated, coordinated and implemented several student and agency initiatives aimed at creating a more inclusive and diverse STEM learning and working environment, and published over 12 peer reviewed articles, including two book chapters on Urban STEM education and counter spaces for minority women in STEM. She has also been the recipient of several awards and honors including the 2019 McD #35 Alum of the Year award, 2020 BEYA Modern-Day Technology Leader award, and the 2020 UNCF WIAC Grace Walker Phillips Leadership Award.
